Medieval Book of Hours Database Project

Project Lead: Sharon R. Clayton, Associate Professor, Acquisitions and Discovery Librarian

Vivero Fellow (Spring 2023): Mitsuru Watanabe

This project would involve assisting in transforming data currently held in a multi sheet Google sheet workbook into a database that allowed searching, collation, visualization and reporting out of data with linked images.   It would also have or be combined with a public facing display option that allowed for the public to search, visualize, download, and upload data.

The data and linked images are in the subject area of European Medieval Manuscript Books of Hours that include the Office of the Dead.  The main data segment is a specific manuscript.  Each manuscript is characterized in a number of ways including things like place of origin, language, artist, data of origin, Iconographic subject, etc.  Some manuscripts have linked images, and most have links out to other websites with further information.
