We have generated an ArcGIS map that shows where each tree is located on the Grinnell College campus, and now we would like to convert it into a digitally available form that can be used by anyone (not just Grinnell College folks) to identify what campus tree they are looking at and tell them a few fun facts about that tree (ecological importance to wildlife? usefulness in watershed? vulnerability to climate change?). Ideally it would work like Google Maps, where you can see where your dot is located relative to the dot of the tree. We would also like people to be able to click on the dot to learn more about the tree, but we are open to whatever can be made to work. This project will basically turn campus into a digital arboretum – how cool is that?!
