Project Lead: Minna Mahlab (Director of Science Learning Center)
Vivero Fellow (2025-2026): Zachary Rusli
This project is envisioned as an opportunity to annotate and digitize an existing collection of peer reviewed references informing best practices in science education to create an easily accessible, searchable, and vetted database for anyone: students wanting to learn more about their own learning, new instructors looking for new ideas, veteran instructors hoping to refine a long-time practice. Time permitting, and in potential future iterations, the fellow can add to the database with their own selection of curated references.
Learning opportunities for the Vivero fellow include:
- A deep dive into the literature on the scholarship of teaching, with an emphasis on the inclusion of underrepresented population.
- A cross disciplinary examination and distillation of best practices for teaching and learning.
- Writing and annotation practice with feedback.
- Independent vetting of the digital tools available to create the database.
- Further development of research skills to add sources from the latest literature.
- In addition to creativity, independence, and excellent reading and writing ability, the fellow ideally demonstrates an established interest in pedagogy, a wide range of academic interests, and a deep appreciation for the liberal arts.
