Project Lead: Prof. Sol Cátala-Valentín, Assistant Professor, Research and Instruction Resident Librarian
Vivero Fellow (2026-2027): Carrie Anne Little
To make library learning more engaging and memorable, this project will transform an existing infographic into a self-paced, story-driven digital escape room.
The project builds on Beyond the Search Bar: The TV Guide to Library Research, an infographic created for classroom use that introduces six library tools and services through Smart TV–related analogies. This resource uses these familiar comparisons to help students distinguish the purposes, scopes, and limitations of various library resources. It also shows how the tools can complement one another to meet different research needs.
During the 2026–2027 academic year, the Project Lead and Vivero Fellow will transform the infographic into an interactive digital escape room using Genially, a no-code platform for creating interactive learning experiences. Grounded in game-based learning principles, the escape room will invite students to solve story-driven challenges that both teach and assess their understanding.
The finished project will serve as a reusable, adaptable learning object for use before, during, or after library research sessions to introduce, reinforce, or review students’ understanding of library resources.
The Vivero Fellow will contribute to the project by:
- Understanding the purposes, scopes, and limitations of the six library tools and services featured in the infographic.
- Applying game-based instructional design principles to align gameplay with specific learning objectives.
- Developing a creative narrative (characters, plot, and tone) that transforms educational content into an engaging learning experience.
- Building an interactive digital escape room using Genially’s media library and interactive features.
- Playtesting and refining the experience based on feedback.
- Documenting the project’s design workflow and decision-making process to support future revisions and adaptations.
