Project Lead: Vicki Nolton (Assistant Director for Social Innovation Partnerships and Education, CLS)
Vivero Fellow (Spring 2025): Isaiah Schlimm
Project Need:
Map the System (MTS) is a global research challenge that empowers students to use a systems thinking approach to examine a social or environmental issues and learn how to tackle deeper root causes of complex problems. As the Civic Education and Social Innovation team (within the Center for Careers, Life, and Service department) continues to build Grinnell’s Map the System program, we have identified the need to build a digital repository of Map the System student projects and resources. This digital repository will help internal stakeholders such as: students who may want to learn about systems thinking and participate in Map the System programming, faculty and staff who want to be aware of systems thinking programming for Grinnell College students, and/or external stakeholders such as parents, alumni, and potential Map the System collaborators.
Project Goal:
A Vivero Fellow will create a digital framework/webpage to:
- Explain Map the System as a global program, with explainer videos (i.e. Oxford MTS video or student explainer video)
- Map the System at Grinnell (how to participate, how it fits within CEI, benefits of participation)
- Highlight 1-2 past Grinnell College Map the System student team projects (i.e. https://mapthesystem.web.ox.ac.uk/article/grinnell-college)
- Provide Map the System resources (links, pdfs, etc.)
- Connect this MTS repository page with our Civic Education and Social Innovation webpages: https://career.grinnell.edu/resources/systems-thinking-change-making/
